2017 Mobility Clinic

The 2017 Mobility Clinic was held on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th April in Melbourne, Victoria. 40 amputees and 34 physiotherapists and prosthetists travelled from across the country and state to join us at the event this year. Together with family, friends, Össur staff and Ambassadors, there was over 140 attendees.

The event raised a total of $AUD3,500, which was donated to The Royal Children’s Hospital Limb Deficiency Clinic in Melbourne.

The event combined a mix of clinical presentations and physical activities as well as opportunities for participants to connect with professionals and other amputees of all ages and abilities. Amputee athletes enjoyed the chance to build overall mobility skills under the guidance of renowned amputee physiotherapist, Cathy Howells and her expert team of coaches. Attending healthcare professionals had the opportunity to build upon their own knowledge and learn techniques to improve clinical outcomes.

One session this year was called ‘Athlete’s Choice’ which gave amputee athletes the opportunity to choose between several activities: How to use your Micro-processor Knee, Running Reprise, Mini Soccer or Golf. This was a great success and allowed amputees to work on the areas they want to improve their mobility and confidence. At the conclusion of the event, a presentation ceremony was held where two deserving amputees received a Free Össur Running Foot.

Over the course of the two-day event, improvements in mobility, balance, speed and confidence became evident amongst all participants.

Thank you to everyone who joined and participated in such an amazing experience and all that helped to create another successful Clinic. Make sure you follow Össur on social media and join our Mobility Clinic Facebook group to find out when and where our Mobility Clinic will be held next!
